Swartz included it in 1800 in its current genus Sechium. Browne's 1756 work, the Civil and Natural History of Jamaica. The plant was first recorded by modern botanists in P. The crop is not frost-tolerant, however it can be grown as an annual in temperate regions. Ĭhayote adapts to a wide range of climatic conditions but grows best in regions with average temperatures of 13°-21 ☌ with at least 1500–2000 mm of annual precipitation. Clay soils reduce crop productivity because they retain water and therefore promote growth of fungal pests. Soil and climate requirements Ĭhayote requires humus-rich, well drained soils, which are slightly acid to acid (pH 4.5 to 6.5). Depending on variety and region, yield reaches from 10 to 115 t/ha. In Latin America, chayote is widely cultivated. In Trinidad and Tobago, it is grown in the mountainous areas strung from wire lines. However, in Australia and New Zealand it is an easily grown yard or garden plant, set on a chicken wire support or strung against a fence. The roots are also highly susceptible to rot, especially in containers, and the plant in general is finicky to grow. Like other members of the gourd family, chayote has a sprawling habit, and requires sufficient room. In Madagascar and the western Indian Ocean, it is called "soasety." in Mauritius), or a variant thereof (e.g. In other parts of the world, the English name is often chou chou (e.g. In India, the vegetable is called chow chow among other names in the east and north east, it is simply known as squash and is a very popular vegetable used in both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. In the eastern Caribbean, the United Kingdom and Ireland, it is known as christophene, while it is chou chou in Jamaica. In China, it is referred to as foshugua, meaning "Buddha's palms melon". In Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, it is known as choko which comes from the 19th century Cantonese market gardeners who introduced many vegetables into the former two countries. Cajun me-lay-taw or urban Creole miʁl-uh-tɔ̃ns) In Louisiana and Haiti it is known as mirliton (pronounced IPA: ) also spelled mirleton or merleton in the United Kingdom (the r is often silent, e.g. The term chayote is also used in Puerto Rico. The common American English name of the fruit (outside of Louisiana) is from the Spanish word chayote, a derivative of the Nahuatl word chayohtli ( pronounced ). The fruit goes by many English-language names around the world. The tubers of the plant are eaten like potatoes and other root vegetables, while the shoots and leaves are often consumed in salads and stir fries, especially in Asia. Whether raw or cooked, chayote is a good source of vitamin C.Īlthough most people are familiar only with the fruit as being edible, the root, stem, seeds and leaves are edible as well. Raw chayote may be added to salads or salsas, most often marinated with lemon or lime juice, but is often regarded as unpalatable and tough in texture. When cooked, chayote is usually handled like summer squash it is generally lightly cooked to retain the crispy consistency. At that time, the plant spread to other parts of the Americas, ultimately causing it to be integrated into the cuisine of many Latin American nations. It is one of several foods introduced to the Old World during the Columbian Exchange. This fruit was first cultivated in Mesoamerica between southern Mexico and Honduras, with the most genetic diversity available in both Mexico and Guatemala. †Percentages are roughly approximated using US recommendations for adults.Ĭhayote ( Sechium edule), also known as mirliton and choko, is an edible plant belonging to the gourd family, Cucurbitaceae. In contemporary art, the term digital art is used primarily to describe visual art that is made with digital tools, and also is highly computational, and explicitly engages with digital technologies. Īlso in 2022, Refik Anadol created an artificial intelligence art installation at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, based on the museum's own collection. In 2022, an amateur artist using Midjourney won the first-place $300 prize in a digital art competition at the Colorado State Fair. In 2019, Stephanie Dinkins won the Creative Capital award for her creation of an evolving artificial intelligence based on the "interests and culture(s) of people of color." Īlso in 2019, Sougwen Chung won the Lumen Prize for her performances with a robotic arm that uses AI to attempt to draw in a manner similar to Chung. It was created by a collective in Paris named "Obvious". In 2018 Christie's auction house in New York sold an artificial intelligence work, "Edmond de Bellamy" for US$432,500. In 2009, Eric Millikin won the Pulitzer Prize along with several other awards for his artificial intelligence art that was critical of government corruption in Detroit and resulted in the city's mayor being sent to jail. In both 19, Karl Sims won the Golden Nica award at Prix Ars Electronica for his 3D AI animated videos using artificial evolution. In addition, it is worth mentioning the whole process: it is also similar to the "generator" and "discriminator" modules in GANs. After receiving the results generated by picture generators, the user can select one picture as a result he wants or let the generator redraw and return to new pictures. Then picture generators will return several similar pictures generated according to the input (generally, 4 pictures are given now). It can also include selecting a specific artist style, screen style, image pixel size, brightness, etc. For example, the content can be a scene's content, characters, weather, character relationships, specific items, etc. Generally, the user can set the input, and the input content includes detailed picture content that the user wants. This greatly reduces the threshold of painting and challenges the traditional definition of painting art. And some artists can use image generators to generate their paintings instead of drawing from scratch, and then they use the generated paintings as a basis to improve them and finally create new digital paintings. Anyone can turn their language into a painting through a picture generator. The essential idea of image generators is that people can use text descriptions to let AI convert their text into visual picture content. It can be used to generate pictures that have visual effects similar to traditional fine art. It is usually used to let the computer find the best solution by itself. Since their design in 2014, some artists have created artwork using a generative adversarial network (GAN), which is a machine learning framework that allows two "algorithms" to compete with each other and iterate. A possible third paradigm is to generate art in 2D or 3D entirely through the execution of algorithms coded into computer programs. Typically 2D computer graphics use raster graphics as their primary means of source data representations, whereas 3D computer graphics use vector graphics in the creation of immersive virtual reality installations. The second kind is 3D computer graphics, where the screen becomes a window into a virtual environment, where you arrange objects to be "photographed" by the computer. What is generated on your screen might appear to be drawn with a pencil, pen, or paintbrush. In this case, however, the image is on the computer screen, and the instrument you draw with might be a tablet stylus or a mouse. The simplest is 2D computer graphics which reflect how you might draw using a pencil and a piece of paper. Terragen has been used in creating CGI for movies.ĭigital visual art consists of either 2D visual information displayed on an electronic visual display or information mathematically translated into 3D information viewed through perspective projection on an electronic visual display. A procedurally generated photorealistic landscape was created with Terragen. Step 1.1: Find the Office location in your Windows and move to there. Dreamin’ In The Country (Dale Peters) (2:57)ī3. Yadig? (Jim Fox/Dale Peters/Joe Walsh) (2:30)Ī4. They succeed on one of those fronts, but I feel like the orchestrated works here are a step back from what they already achieved on “The Bomber” and “Ashes the Rain and I.” By diffusing their energies in so many different directions, Thirds shows the band to be more than the sum of Joe Walsh’s songwriting abilities, but it’s not the first James Gang album you need to own.Ī2. It seems James Gang wanted to write a hit song, play with an orchestra and change the world all on the same album. The band’s ambitions are (again) slightly misaligned with their abilities. In fact, there are only three songs that technically rock on Thirds: “Walk Away,” “Midnight Man” (which is really more of a romantic pop song, though with tongue in cheek) and “Things I Could Be.” Given how good a rock drummer Jim Fox is (not my impression on the first album, btw), it’s a shame his talents are wasted on tracks like “Again” and “It’s All The Same.” As a kind of compensation, Fox does branch out into organ (“Things I Could Be”) and vibes on this album. On Thirds, the band brings in the sort of orchestral arrangements not normally associated with rock bands (unless they’re named The Beatles) and is guilty of meandering a bit on some of the more ambitious songs (e.g., “Again”). It turned out to be a good time to advance the personalities of Fox and Peters, as Walsh would leave the band the following year.Īlthough third albums are often where it all comes together, I would say that Rides Again is the tighter album because it rocks more consistently. Dale Peters delivers a really sweet country song (“Dreamin’ in the Country”) and a blues song that builds into an impressive crescendo (“White Man/Black Man”), Jim Fox writes two tracks, including the ambitious and surprisingly philosophical album-ender, “Live My Life Again,” and Joe Walsh matches their contributions with four new songs. All three members contributed material on their last album, but this is the first time that members wrote and sang the material on their own. What emerges on Thirds is a band with very different musical personalities. If the band didn’t have any qualms about making the same album twice, they take pains on Thirds not to write the same song twice I’d be hard-pressed to name another album that sounds so different from track to track. This time, the killer track is “ Walk Away,” which I would tell you is even tighter than “Funk #49,” but that’s splitting heirs, as the two tracks are pretty much the sum and substance of James Gang’s legacy. The gang’s third album follows the same formula as their last: deliver a killer rock track out of the gate and then do your darnedest not to repeat that feat again. Kronomyth 3.0: The James Gang rides again… again. After receiving so much love from this country, he aims to give back to those who have sacrificed for and protected this country. The last album before Joe Walsh rode off into the solo sunset, this one features the prescient “Walk Away.” His compassion is done through more than merely words but action. Walsh has continuously supported returning soldiers and their families. It’s always good to see musicians who use their influence, and platform for all the right reasons. I believe in Ohio and look forward to celebrating our musical legacy while honoring our veterans with VetsAid 2022.” ( comes home for one historic night of Ohio Rock – James Gang to reunite for “One Last Ride” with special guest plus sets from and November 13 go on sale Friday, August 5th at 10AM. As Walsh explains, “Picking up my first guitar as a kid in Columbus set me on a musical journey to Kent State, Cleveland and then the world. As the title of the concert suggests, all funds will be scheduled to go towards Ohio veterans and their families. Walsh reflects on his entire career and considers Ohio to be the birth of his music journey. My thoughts on the story peaked by the end of the second episode with the last 3 feeling a bit lackluster in comparison. For the purpose of review, all 5 episodes were accessible, and I’m glad they were. The episodes are of varying length, but expect to take about 7 or so hours to get through them all. The first two are available from launch, with the others arriving weekly. We Are OFK is split up into 5 episodes that have their own music videos. Having now experienced all five episodes ahead of the episodic rollout beginning today, We Are OFK has ended being more good than bad, but there are some issues. I love music in games, and We Are OFK is something I’ve had on my radar since Nintendo posted about it coming to Switch. In the case of We Are OFK, “an interactive narrative series of arguing over lyrics, sending sad texts, and playing Interactive Music Videos" is a very accurate representation of what this release offers. This development is probably due to the fact that Fusion 360 is now available for free for students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and startups. Rank 4, Fusion 360: Fusion 360 is making quite a buzz lately. It focuses on the rapid creation of parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings but comes with a hefty price tag. It simply scored very well in each of the categories we observed. Rank 2, SketchUp: SketchUp takes the silver medal in our ranking. However, Blender is known for its steep learning curve and is often considered difficult for beginners. This popularity is down to two reasons: first, Blender gives its users enormous design freedom with nearly innumerable tools, and second, it’s a free open-source software. Pomegranate.Īnother symbolic mystical creature is the Qilin. They believe that the rooster has the power of dispelling evil and welcoming a new day. Based on the fact that a rooster cries out every morning, the Chinese see this bird as a symbol of protection from bad or negative energy. Not only is it part of the twelve Chinese zodiac animals, but it is also a representation of the yang masculine energy that’s proud and bold. Roosters are also important birds in China. It is also the feminine representation of the feminine energy in Yin and Yang and was used as the sacred imperial symbol for the Empress in ancient China. It is a representation of good luck and rebirth, given that a new phoenix rises from the ashes of one that burst into flames. The phoenix, for example, is said to be the representative of all birds, both real and mythological, and the most powerful and auspicious one. More specifically, as mentioned, each bird has a separate symbolic meaning in Chinese culture. This is based on their freedom and ability to fly from the earth, connecting us to the heavens. Generally, however, in China birds are seen as the divine messengers who communicate people’s requests to the gods. Some of them represent positivity and good omens while others represent bad omens.
